Pronghorn Movement and Survival in the Western Panhandle and Trans-Pecos Regions of Texas

Pronghorn population dynamics in the Panhandle and Trans-Pecos regions of Texas are understudied. In partnership with Borderlands Research Institute - Sul Ross University, this project aims to evaluate anthropogenic and environmental factors limiting pronghorn adult and fawn survival in Texas. This project will additionally integrate previous research from studies in Texas and Oklahoma. This integration of multiple datasets will be vital in building a comprehensive population model to understand how pronghorn population numbers will change based on different environmental conditions, predator management efforts, habitat improvement projects, and future translocation efforts. The research supplied by this project will assist Texas Parks and Wildlife in developing future management strategies for both populations such as harvest regulations, translocation planning, and habitat investments.
